American Public Education (APEI) reported first quarter net income of $0.50 per share after the close Thursday, up from $0.43 per share in the previous year. The consensus estimate was for EPS of $0.48. Second quarter EPS is expected to be between $0.41 and $0.47. The consensus estimate is for EPS of $0.51.
American Public Education gapped open sharply lower Friday, but traded in a range for the majority of the day. Shares finished down by 3.78 at $28.09, with volume at over a 6-month high. The stock has been declining for the last month and closed testing the lows of the year.
