Germany's wholesale price inflation accelerated to 2.4 percent in April from 2.2 percent in March, the Federal Statistical Office said Monday.

Economists had forecast an increase to 2.3 percent. The uptick can mainly be attributed to higher wholesale prices of solid fuels and petroleum products, the statistical office said.

On a monthly basis, the price index rose 0.5 percent, compared to 0.9 percent increase in the previous month. The outcome was a tad above the 0.4 percent forecast.
