Medical reports from George Zimmerman's family doctor released on Tuesday revealed the neighborhood watch volunteer had been injured with two black eyes, a "closed fracture" of his nose, and lacerations on the back of his head.

The injuries were said to be a result of an altercation Zimmerman had with Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old African American, resulting in the shooting death of Martin on February 26 in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman, 28, has plead not guilty to a second degree murder charge, and claims self-defense in the shooting.

The medical reports will serve as evidence for the prosecution, as the prosecution is preparing its case with a long list of witnesses and a multitude of forensic details. The prosecution wants to keep the list of witnesses secret asking Judge Kenneth Lester to waive the Florida court transparency law.

"We're confident the medical records are going to explain all of George's medical history," Robert Zimmerman Jr. said in a CNN Piers Morgan interview in March. "You return force with force when somebody assaults you. George was out of breath, he was barely conscious. George (would have been) dead if he had not acted decisively and instantaneously in that moment."

The controversial case has gained worldwide media attention over issues of racial profiling and gun laws. Zimmerman was initially spared arrest due to Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law which allows a person to shoot in self-defense. Zimmerman was later arrested on April 11, briefly jailed, then released on $150,000 bail.
