Tom Morello performed at the National Nurses United rally on Friday, May 18 before a crowd of 5,000 protesters at Chicago's Daley Plaza.

Three songs into his five song set the power went out, prompting Morello to rile the crowd:

"Mike check," he shouted, followed by the collective response, "Mike check," from the audience. "The power went out," Morello added, "Either by design or accident, but that will not stop the show!"

The glitch was soon repaired, the power soon came back on and Morello yelled: "The people united will never see defeat!"

Originally, the protest was in threat of not proceeding due to push back from city officials—who were also handling a NATO convention; but Morello, speaking with Rolling Stone, says neither he nor the nurses would be silenced:

"They couldn't shut us down because we stood up. It was a few politicians, their skeevy lawyers and some trembling NATO generals who caved in."
