The US embassy in Afghanistan has urged the Chief of Mission personnel in Kabul City to restrict their travel in the vicinity of MFA road, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Directorate of Security headquarters and the Government Media Information Center, for the next 48 hours.
A Travel Advisory posted on the embassy website on Wednesday did not cite any reason for the travel restriction.
A Travel Warning by the State Department for U.S. citizens against travel to Afghanistan is still in force. U.S. citizens traveling to Afghanistan despite this warning have been advised to avoid being predictable in their movements, including varying routes and times in commutes or other routine travel.
The U.S. Embassy urged U.S. citizens to remain vigilant and avoid areas where westerners congregate, such as hotels and guest houses. They have also been advised not to discuss travel plans or other personal matters with strangers, or in public places.
U.S. citizens in Afghanistan should regularly monitor the Embassy's Security Announcements Internet web page, as well as the Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs website, where the Worldwide Caution, Country Specific Information and the Travel Warning for Afghanistan are found.
