Kevin Costner has reportedly signed on to appear in a new History Channel mini-series called "Hatfields & McCoys." The thee-part, six-hour special will tell the story of America's most famous family feud.

Costner will star as patriarch Devil Anse Hatfield and will appear opposite Bill Paxton in the role of Randall McCoy. Speaking of the project, Costner said he's thrilled to return to a Western, but he was also drawn in by the script.

"It's so much fun to dress up and go get those (bad) guys," Costner said, according to cnbc.com.

"I am a really writer-oriented actor . . . Just because I liked the idea of the history of the Hatfields and the McCoys, I wouldn't necessarily have done it on that basis. It's not enough me just liking American history, or the story, or the people," he said.
