Recent polls suggest that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will likely survive the recall election June 5th, with the Republican governor leading Democratic challenger Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.
According to the results of a Reason-Rupe poll released Thursday, Walker leads Barrett 50 percent to 42 percent among those likely to vote in the recall election.
Wisconsin voters will decide whether to remove Walker from office after last year's controversy over his push to limit the collective bargaining rights of state public employee unions.
A separate St. Norbert College/Wisconsin Public Radio survey showed 50 percent of Wisconsin voters support Walker, while 45 percent back Barret.
The surveys align with a Marquette Law School poll released last week that said Walker was up by six percentage points over Barrett.
According to the St. Norbert College/Wisconsin Public Radio survey, 47 percent of Barrett voters said the most important reason why Walker should be removed from office before the end of his term is because of his "dishonest, bully tactics, divisive" character.
Reason-Rupe polled 708 Wisconsin adults, including 609 likely voters, from May 14th through 18th. The margin of error for likely voters is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
St. Norbert College/Wisconsin Public Radio surveyed 406 Wisconsin voters from May 17th through 22nd. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percent.
