Flowers Foods Inc. (FLO) reported first quarter EPS of $0.28 Thursday morning, down from $0.30 in the prior year. The consensus estimate was for EPS of $0.28. Full year 2012 EPS is expected to increase between 3.5% and 8.0% over the 2011 adjusted EPS of $0.96.
Flowers Foods rose sharply in the first 45 minutes of trade Thursday and closed up by 1.40 at $20.99, with volume at a 9-month high. The stock broke out to a 3-week high and re-crossed its 50-day moving average.
