The Red Hot Chili Peppers have revealed plans to release 18 new tracks over the course of the next six months.

In a statement on his official Twitter account, bassist Flea explained:

"We have been writing stuff while touring. We are also going to put out 18 new songs over the next 6 months on 7 inch and digitally."

The announcement from Flea follows a statement from drummer Chad Smith, who also noted that the band had "at least ten" new tracks to be released as a follow-up to their most recent effort I'm With You.

The news comes at a busy time for the rockers, who will head to the U.K. next month for dates at Knebworth Park June 23, Sunderland's Stadium Of Light on June 24 and Dublin's Croke Park on June 26.
