Paul McCartney has confirmed that he will close out the opening ceremonies to the London Olympics. Speaking with BBC 5 on Monday, the former Beatle said "I've been booked" and explained that he would be "closing the opening" of the special event.

The opening ceremony will take place on July 27 in East London and has an "Isles of Wonder" theme. The ceremony is being staged by Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire director, Danny Boyle, who is also the event's artistic director.

The full line-up of the opening ceremony on July 27 has yet to be announced.

McCartney's confirmation followed his closing performance at the Queen's Jubilee Concert in London this past Monday. McCartney played five-song greatest hits set in front of the queen, and a crowd of 12,000 on a stage in front of Buckingham Palace.
