Beloved American science fiction writer Ray Bradbury has died at the age of 91. Bradbury was perhaps best known for his book "Fahrenheit 451" and was living in the Cheviot Hills area of Los Angeles at the time of his death.
Bradbury was born in Waukegan, Illinois, on August 22, 1920 and as child his passion was performing magic tricks. Speaking with Playboy in 1996 he said that was his initial passion in life:
"I had decided to be a magician well before I decided to be a writer," he said. "I was the little boy who would get up onstage and do magic wearing a fake mustache, which would fall off during the performance. I'm still trying to perform those tricks. Now I do it with writing."
Ray's first novel "The Martian Chronicles" won critical acclaim from critics, but it was "Fahrenheit 451" that pushed him to celebrity. The book tells the story of a dystopian future in which a strict government censors books.
"I wasn't trying to predict the future," he said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal in 2003. "I was trying to prevent it."
