The singer Pink was unable to host a LGBT fundraiser for President Barack Obama in Los Angeles yesterday due to a stomach ailment.
Luckily, Glee star Darren Criss was available to step in and host the fundraiser. Criss plays an openly gay character on the hit Fox TV show.
Since coming out in favor of same-sex marriage last month, President Obama has been positioning himself as a gay rights advocate in the run up to the 2012 election. He recently declared the month of June "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month."
In a public address, Obama says, "LGBT Americans and allies have achieved what once seemed inconceivable. . . This month, we reflect on their enduring legacy, celebrate the movement that has made progress possible, and recommit to securing the fullest blessings of freedom for all Americans."
The fundraiser was held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and was expected to raise around $10 million for Obama's re-election campaign.
