Greece's annual inflation slowed to the lowest level in thirty-one months in May, data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Friday.

Inflation slowed to 1.4 percent in May from 1.9 percent in April. The latest figure was the lowest since October 2009, when consumer prices increased 1.2 percent.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices rose 1.7 percent annually, while clothing and footwear prices moved up 1.4 percent. There was a 5.8 percent year-on-year increase in housing costs during the month and a 1.8 percent rise in transportation costs.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.3 percent in May, reversing the previous month's 0.8 percent increase.

Separately, the agency said industrial production in Greece increased at significantly slower rate of 2.2 percent in April than 8.1 percent in March. Month-on-month, industrial output dropped 1.3 percent during the month, following the previous month's 1.5 percent rise.
