Beyoncé Hints At Inspiration Behind Baby Name Blue Ivy

Beyoncé has hinted at the potential inspiration behind the name of her new baby Blue Ivy Carter. In a post to her official blog, Bey shared a passage from Rebecca Solnit's 2005 novel A Field Guide to Getting Lost, which some fans are crediting as the source for Bey and husband Jay-Z's baby name choice.

The passage expounds on how the color blue is central to life on planet earth:

"The world is blue at its edges and in its depths. This blue is the light that got lost. Light at the end blue end of the spectrum does not travel the whole distance from the sun to us. It disperses among the molecules of the air, it scatters in the water. Water is colorless, shallow water appears to be the color of whatever lies underneath it, but deep water is full of this scattered light, the purer the water the deeper the blue," it reads.

Various rumors have circulated that Bey and Jay chose the middle name Ivy as an homage to their favorite number, four, which is spelled IV in roman numerals.
