Jeremy Jordan, who is currently starring in "Newsies" on Broadway, will crossover to television to star on NBC's series, "Smash." On the program, Jordan will play a self-destructive singer from Brooklyn.

Jordan's work in "Newsies" earned him a Tony nod (Best Performance by an Actor) and he plans to stay on the production as he shoots the series.

"Smash," which recently finished its first season, has been losing staff and talent with the departures of creator/showrunner Theresa Rebeck. Rebeck was replaced with Josh Safran, showrunner of "Gossip Girl."

After Rebeck's exit, cast members Raza Jaffrey, Jaime Cepero, Brian d'Arcy James and Will Chase also left the series.

NBC will bring back "Smash" midseason to give its new players time to adjust to the changes.
