Actress and writer Nora Ephron died at the age of 71 in New York this week. Ephron had battled acute myeloid leukemia and was surrounded by her friends and family at the time of her passing. Ephron was best known as the writer behind "When Harry Met Sally" and "Sleepless in Seattle," but also earned an Oscar nod for her acting in "Silkwood."

A host of luminaries from entertainment and beyond have paid tribute to Ephron, including Martin Landau, who said:

"An amazingly talented girl who was able to accomplish everything she set her mind to with great style and will be missed enormously."

Ephron was a pillar of the New York City arts community and Mayor Michael Bloomberg also released a comment on her death saying:

"The loss of Nora Ephron is a devastating one for New York City's arts and cultural community," Bloomberg said in a statement. "From her earliest days at New York City's newspapers to her biggest Hollywood successes, Nora always loved a good New York story, and she could tell them like no one else."
