Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise are getting a divorce after five years of marriage, according to People magazine.
"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," Holmes' attorney Jonathan Wolfe said. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."
The couple have 6-year-old Suri Cruise.
Cruise's rep issued a statement indicating that Holmes was the one to first file the divorce papers.
"Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out," Amanda Lundberg said.
Cruise, after only dating Holmes for a few months, had proposed to her on top of the Eiffel Tower in 2005. This is the actor's third marriage that has failed, the other two being Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers, while this was Holmes' first marriage.
