Malaysian Factory Sales Rise 10% In May

Malaysia's manufacturing sales increased markedly in May, data released by the Department of Statistics showed Wednesday.

The value of manufacturing sales increased 10 percent on an annual basis to MYR52.5 billion in May, following the previous month's 5.3 percent growth.

On a month-on-month basis, seasonally adjusted sales value decreased 0.2 percent during the month, data showed.

The number of employees engaged in the Manufacturing sector was 1,024,902 in May, up 0.3 percent compared to the same month last year. Month-on-month, employment decreased 0.2 percent during the month.

The average sales value per employee or productivity increased 0.5 percent month-on-month to MYR51,221 during the month. Annually, productivity increased by 9.7 percent.
