Swiss Trade Surplus Rises In Q2

Swiss trade surplus improved markedly in the second quarter, the latest figures from the Federal Customs Administrations showed Thursday.

The trade surplus rose to CHF 6.06 billion in the June quarter from CHF 5.57 billion in the March quarter. In June, the surplus was CHF 2.246 billion.

During the second quarter, exports fell 1.5 percent year-on-year in real terms. Imports, meanwhile, rose 0.8 percent. In June, exports grew 7.6 percent year-on-year to CHF 16.9 billion. Imports rose 3.7 percent to CHF 14.6 billion.

During the January to June period, exports recorded a 0.2 percent decline compared to the same period last year. Imports fell 0.3 percent. The trade balance for the six-month period amounted to CHF 11.62 billion.

Separately, the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry FH said Thursday that Swiss watch exports rose 21.7 percent in June from a year ago to CHF 1.9 billion.
