Walgreen Co. (WAG) and Express Scripts (ESRX) announced Thursday morning that they have reached a multi-year pharmacy network agreement, which includes rates and terms under which Walgreens will participate in the broadest Express Scripts retail pharmacy network available to new and existing clients.
Walgreen gapped open sharply higher Thursday, but traded in a range throughout the session. The stock closed up by 3.65 at $34.62 on the highest volume of the year. Walgreen jumped to a 2 1/2 month high and re-crossed its 200-day moving average.
