Mariah Carey will be honored by BMI with the "Icon Award" at this year's BMI Urban Awards. The Grammy Award-winning singer has sold more than 200 million albums worldwide and has to her name 18 number one singles on Billboard's Hot 100.
The ceremony for the award will take place September 7 at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills. The show will include an all-star musical tribute to the "One Sweet Day" singer.
Other musicians to earn the BMI Icon Award include the Jacksons, Snoop Dogg, James Brown, Al Green and Little Richard. All recipients are honored for their "unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers."
Mimi fans can expect a new album soon as she is currently at work in the studio. No word yet on a release date.
