Flea announced via Twitter that he will release a new solo EP, Helen Burns, in order to benefit the Silverlake Conservatory of Music.

The tracks on the EP will be "obscure, arty, mostly instrumental music," noted the Red Hot Chili Pepper bassist, adding that one of the tracks will feature Patti Smith on vocals.

Fans can pay "any price [they] want to pay" to download the track; those fans who donate $75 or more will get an autographed vinyl version "with a piece of a bass string that I have played in concert."

He added that the music for the EP, which he describes as a "trippy freakout," was recorded after RHCP finished their Stadium Arcadium tour in 2007. More details on the release are forthcoming.
