J. Rome, singing partner to Jennifer Nettles on the ABC program Duets, placed first on the Thursday night (July 19) finale of the show.
Nettles went into the final three with two of her own contestants: Rome and John Glosson. Kelly Clarkson's contestant Jason Farol rounded out the night's contenders. John Legend's and Robin Thicke's contestants were eliminated earlier in the competition.
Nettles and Glosson sang Wicked's "For Good" for their final duet. Clarkson and Farol worked up a version of Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel" for their final song. Nettles and Rome closed out the performances with DeBarge's "Rhythm of the Night."
Rome gets a contract with Hollywood Records for his efforts. Prior to the announcement of results, Rome said that a win would "completely change my life. I wouldn't be poor."
