Heartland Financial USA, Inc. (HTLF) reported second-quarter net income available to common stockholders of $12.9 million or $0.77 per share, up from $8.9 million or $0.54 per share in the year-ago comparable quarter.

On average, 6 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.46 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Net interest income for the latest quarter rose to $37.2 million from $36.6 million last year. Net interest margin dropped to 4.05 percent from 4.23 percent last year.

Total non-interest income for the quarter increased to $28.3 million from $14.7 million in the year-ago quarter.

Five analysts expected revenues of $57.74 million for the quarter.

Provision for loan losses decreased to $3.0 million from $3.8 million last year.
