Metallica have confirmed that they are in the early stages of work on the follow up to their most recent release Death Magnetic. During a press conference in Mexico City, the metal legends explained that they are still gathering inspiration for their next offering.
"We don't know what's inspiring us right now. I've been itching to write for a long time — all of us have — so there's lots of ideas. It could go very quick, it could take a long time; we have no idea," said James Hetfield.
Death Magnetic was released in 2008, but the band has been anything but idle since then. In addition to a staggering worldwide touring schedule, they also collaborated with Lou Reed for the album Lulu last year.
"I think everything we do affects the next thing somehow. We don't know how that will show up. That is another way of writing," Hetfield said of that session.
