Xstrata Copper Commissions Plant At Antapaccay Copper Project In Peru

Xstrata Plc (XTA.L) Tuesday announced that Xstrata Copper has commissioned the plant at its Antapaccay copper project in Southern Peru on scheduled time and first production from this copper project is estimated during October 2012.

The fourth largest copper producer in the world, Xstrata Copper, has stated that with the commissioning of its copper plant in Southern Peru, total Mineral Resources have increased by 27 percent to more than 1 billion tones.

Antapaccay is a major new long-life, low cost copper operation with a mine life of more than 20 years, situated approximately 10 kilometres from our Tintaya open pit mine, where mining activities are scheduled to complete in the coming months.

Xstrata Copper Chief Executive Charlie Sartain said: "The new Antapaccay mine will transform our operations in Southern Peru. Antapaccay is one of four copper projects that we are commissioning this year, including the successful major expansion at our Antamina joint venture operation in Peru which commissioned in March and is already running above expanded nameplate capacity. …"
