The release of "The Great Gatsby," the Baz Luhrmann directed adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, has been pushed back from December 25 to the summer of 2013 by its distributor, Warner Bros.

A rep for the company said the move was to ensure a bigger audience for the film:

"Based on what we've seen, Baz Luhrmann's incredible work is all we anticipated and so much more. It truly brings Fitzgerald's American classic to life in a completely immersive, visually stunning and exiting way. We think moviegoers of all ages are going to embrace it, and it makes sense to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible."

The 3D movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Joel Edgerton.
