German premium carmaker Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, or BMW Group (BAMXY.PK,BAMXF.PK,BMW.L) reported an 5.0 percent increase in sales for the month of July, reflecting strong gains in Asia. The company said it delivered total of 135,537 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand vehicles worldwide last month, compared to 129,102 in the prior year period.
For the first seven months of the year, the number of deliveries climbed 7.6 percent to 1,036,088 vehicles from 962,493 vehicles delivered in the same period previous year. The company specified that its the first time in its history that over one million vehicles had been delivered in the first seven months.
Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management, Sales and Marketing BMW, said, "The BMW Group continued on its successful course in July and we are confident that we will continue to make solid gains throughout the second half of the year,"
For the month of July, sales in Asia increased 20.8 percent to 36,128 vehicles, versus 29,950 previous year. In Europe, sales of BMW Group vehicles totaled 60,855 units, compared to 62,350 units last year. Sales in the Americas improved 3.4 percent for the reporting month, with 33,076 vehicles delivered, versus 31,975 vehicles previous year.
In the first seven months of the year, BMW's sales in Asia surged 25 percent to 274,058 vehicles from 219,204 delivered prior year. In Europe, BMW Group sales remained at last year's level, with a total of 497,932 vehicles, versus 499,749 vehicles last year. In the Americas, the company has sold 227,696 vehicles, up 8.0 percent from the seven month period in 2011.
Worldwide sales of BMW brand vehicles climbed 4.2 percent in the month of July, while increasing 7.7 percent in the first seven months of the year. MINI sales increased 9.6 percent in July and 7.3 percent for January to July period.
