Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has officially named Congressman Paul Ryan as the vice presidential candidate of his party, media reports said.
Ryan, 42, who chairs the U.S. House of Representatives Budget Committee, was introduced by Romney at the the Nauticus Museum in Norfolk, Virginia, on Saturday, ending a long-drawn search for a running mate to face Democratic President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in the presidential elections slated for November 6.
The republican candidates are set to start a bus tour through the states of Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Ohio, where they will be contesting.
Ryan, a fiscal conservative who conceived the controversial budget plan to overhaul Medicare, won election to the United States House of Representatives in 1998 and has been the U.S. Representative for Wisconsin's 1st congressional district since 1999.
Romney's choice for Ryan as his VP candidate was quite in contrast to the result of a poll on Thursday, at which Florida Senator Marco Rubio became the most popular choice for Romney's running mate. Among a field of seven possible vice presidential choices, Rubio came out ahead, claiming 28 percent of respondents in the CNN/ORC poll, while Paul Ryan won only 16 percent vote.
