Estonia Q2 Jobless Rate Lowest Since 2008

Unemployment in Estonia decreased to the lowest level since 2008 in the second quarter, data released by Statistics Estonia showed Tuesday.

The unemployment rate decreased to 10.2 percent in the second quarter from 11.5 percent in the first quarter. The latest figure was the lowest since the fourth quarter of 2008, when the jobless rate was 7.6 percent.

The unemployment rate among youth, aged between 15 and 24, was 24.4 percent during the period, up from 22.7 percent recorded in the first quarter.

The number of unemployed persons in the country decreased by around 9,000 from the first quarter to about 71,000 in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, the number of persons in employment increased by 1.6 percent sequentially to around 624,000 during the three-month period. Year-on-year, employment advanced 3.6 percent.
