Republican Vice Presidential hopeful Paul Ryan is reportedly a devoted fan of some unexpected musical acts, namely Rage Against the Machine and Nirvana. The news comes via a profile of the rising right wing star in the New York Times.

According to the Times feature, Ryan unashamedly claims his devotion for Zack De La Rocha and company despite the band's extreme left wing political stance. The profile claims he often totes an iPod including a healthy selection of '90s grunge, plus selections from the Grateful Dead, Metallica and Led Zeppelin.

"The nation's first Generation X vice presidential candidate, he is an avowed proponent of free markets whose family has interests in oil leases," the article states. "But he counts Rage Against the Machine, which sings about the greed of oil companies and whose website praises the anti-corporate Occupy Wall Street movement, among his favorite bands."
