Bulgarian Unemployment Rate Rises In Q2

Bulgaria's unemployment increased from last year in the second quarter, data released by the National Statistical Institute showed Tuesday.

The unemployment rate increased to 12.3 percent in the second quarter from 11.2 percent in the same period a year earlier. In the first quarter, the jobless rate was 12.9 percent.

The number of unemployed persons in the country increased 10 percent year-on-year to around 409,500 in the second quarter.

The number of long-term unemployed, persons unemployed for one year or more, rose by 9.8 percent compared to the second quarter of 2011. The unemployment rate among youth, aged between 15 and 29, was 20.7 percent, up 1.7 percentage points from last year.

There were around 2.91 million employed persons in Bulgaria at the end of the second quarter, down by 1.1 percent from a year earlier, data showed.
