Conference Board's consumer confidence edge down to 60.6 in August, down from 65.9 recorded in the previous month. Analysts had predicted the headline index to slow to 65.5 in the month.
The US dollar held steady against major rivals after the report. As of 10:02 am ET, the greenback was trading at 0.9568 against the Swiss franc, 1.5811 against the pound, 1.2555 against the euro and 78.55 against the yen.
