Star Bulk Carriers Corp. (SBLK) reported that its second-quarter net loss amounted to $4.6 million or $0.056 per share, compared to net income of $1.7 million or $0.027 per share in the year ago quarter.

Total voyage revenues amounted to $21.7 million compared to $22.7 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2011.

Excluding these non-cash items, net loss for the second quarter of 2012 would amount to $2.9 million or $0.04 loss per share. Excluding these non-cash items, net income for the second quarter of 2011 would amount to $2.3 million or $0.04 earnings per share.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report a loss of $0.05 per share on revenues of $20.19 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

The company announced that its Board declared a cash dividend of $0.015 per outstanding share of the company's common stock for the three months ended June 30, 2012. The dividend is payable on or about September 18, 2012, to shareholders of record as of September 10, 2012.
