Usher and Shakira will join the cast of The Voice for its spring season, in effect replacing Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green while they take a temporary break from the program, according to NBC.
Original judges Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will maintain their current positions on the show. Aguilera is going on the road in support of her upcoming album, while Green is developing a sitcom based on his life for NBC.
A rep for the network, speaking with the Hollywood Reporter, said that "a chair on the panel is not a job for life, nor should it be."
The rep added that the prerequisites include "authenticity, relevance and credibility are all wrapped up in what they do and how they define themselves, which is as active, relevant touring musicians. That may mean a seat on the panel becomes available."
