Fairchild Semiconductor's (FCS) third-quarter net income declined to $24.7 million or $0.19 per share, from $35.8 million or $0.28 per share, and adjusted net income slid to $32.3 million or $0.25 per share, from $44.5 million or $0.34 per share in the prior-year quarter. On average, 14 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $0.17 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.

Total revenue was $358.8 million, compared with $403.2 million in the 2011 third quarter. Analysts estimated revenues of $368.14 million for the quarter.

Looking forward, the company expects sales to be in the range of $330 million to $350 million for the fourth quarter, while 13 analysts project fourth-quarter revenue of $381.12 million.
