Earnings Watch For October 26 (CMCSA, CVH, MRK, NWL)

Cable giant Comcast Corp. (CMCSA: Quote) is expected to report results for the third quarter. The company is expected to earn $0.46 per share on revenues of $16.08 billion, while in the year-ago quarter, earnings and revenue were $0.33 per share and $14.34 billion respectively. The shares closed Thursday at $36.36. (The stock up about 8% in Q3; MA(50)- $35.24; MA(100)- $33.61; 52-wk H/L $37.60/$20.90)

Coventry Health Care Inc. (CVH: Quote) is due to post third-quarter results. The company is expected to record earnings of $0.73 per share versus $0.82 per share last year, on revenues of $3.50 billion. Shares of CVH closed Thursday's trade at $43.93. (The stock declined around 10% in Q3; MA(50)- $41.96; MA(100)- $37.15; 52-wk H/L $44.26/$27.72)

Merck & Co. Inc. (MRK: Quote) is scheduled to report third-quarter results. The healthcare giant is expected to post earnings of $0.92 per share, lower than the year-ago quarter's $0.94 per share. Also, the company is anticipated to generate revenues of $11.57 billion compared to $12.02 billion in the prior-year quarter. The company's shares closed Thursday's session at $46.30. (The stock gained nearly 10% in Q3; MA(50)- $44.82; MA(100)- $43.38; 52-wk H/L $48.00/$33.13)

Newell Rubbermaid Inc. (NWL: Quote) is slated to report results for the third quarter. Earnings and revenue for the quarter are expected to be $0.44 per share and $1.54 bililon respectively. A year earlier, the company earned $0.45 per share on revenues of $1.55 billion. The stock closed Thursday at $20.09. (The stock rose almost 2% in Q3; MA(50)- $19; MA(100)- $18.38; 52-wk H/L $21.04/$14.22)

Additionally, American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. (AXL), Arch Coal Inc. (ACI), Barnes Group Inc. (B), Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. (GT), ImmunoGen, Inc. (IMGN), Interpublic Group of Companies, Inc. (IPG), Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR), Lear Corp. (LEA), Legg Mason Inc. (LM), Lifepoint Hospitals Inc. (LPNT), LyondellBasell Industries NV (LYB) and Rockwell Collins Inc. (COL) will report their results today.

There was a mixed performance on Wall Street on Friday. Shares suffered an early decline, as investors continued to express worries about the Federal Reserve. A recovery through the rest of the day allowed the Dow to edge into positive territory by the close. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 posted fractional losses. Stocks have shown a notable move to the downside in early trading on Friday amid lingering concerns about the outlook for the Federal Reserve's asset purchase program. The major averages have slid firmly into negative territory, adding to the modest losses posted in the previous session. The major averages are currently posting notable losses, near their lows for the young session. After reporting a sharp drop in new orders for manufactured durable goods in the previous month, the Commerce Department released a report on Friday showing that durable goods orders rebounded by more than anticipated in the month of April. The report said durable goods orders surged up by 3.3 percent in April after tumbling by a revised 5.9 percent in March.
