Google launched its much awaited Nexus 10 tablet earlier this week. It might come with Android 4.2 and the best tablet display ever made. But the big question is, can it beat the iPad?

The Nexus 10's 2560 x 1600 resolution is simply the best display that the market has seen to date. The result? 300 ppi, spread across a 10.055-inch screen. Needless to say, your books, photos, movies, applications, magazines and websites will look splendid. iPad competes with 2048 x 1536 resolutions that delivers a slightly inferior 264 ppi.

As far as processing power is concerned, Nexus 10 looks stronger on paper with its 1.7 Ghz Samsung Exynos dual core, than Apple's 1.5 Ghz A6X dual core. Nexus 10 also comes with 2GB ram. Though we don't have published specifications, it is widely believed that iPad 4 runs with 1GB ram. Both slates have 5mp rear cameras and can shoot 1080p video, but the Nexus 10 comes with a more powerful 1.9 mp front camera than iPad's 1.2mp camera.

Now about battery life. Google claims that Nexus 10 can run for nine hours, while Apple promises 10 hours.

Both slates have an accelerometer, a compass, an ambient light sensor and a gyroscope, but Nexus 10 inches ahead with a barometer. The feature allows users to check if they are at the right altitude for a stronger GPS performance !

In this fight, Apple has the upper hand when connectivity is concerned since the Nexus 10 does not come with 3G or 4G/LTE at the moment.

And price? Google is offering its high end 32Gb Nexus 10 at $499 ($399 for 16GB), while Apple has priced its high end 32GB Wi-Fi iPad at $599.

So far, the numbers seem to favor the new Nexus 10, but it must be kept in mind that Apple's flawless hardware and software integration has kept it far ahead of the competition. Apart from this, Apple also boasts richer offerings for content and applications. Yes, Android is closing in on these standards and each new tablet is offering a better user experience.

Apple has so far distinguished the iPad by offering exceptionally powerful hardware. However, with Nexus 10, Google has gone a step ahead and offered a tablet that not only beats the iPad on paper, but one that is also cheaper. The game has just gotten more exciting and performance comparisons between the two slates will ultimately persuade holiday shoppers.
