Vice President Joe Biden met with U2 frontman Bono yesterday to discuss global development, AIDS and efforts to fight poverty. The Vice President's office tweeted a photo from the meeting, which took place in his West Wing office, showing the two men engaged in conversation.

The singer and activist, 52, has been a leading advocate for Africa, drawing attention to issues ranging from poverty and hunger to AIDS, and has met with world leaders on a regular basis.

On Monday night (November 12), Bono gave the keynote address at the Global Social Enterprise Initiative at Georgetown University. Bono told the audience:

"Cuts can cost the lives of the poorest of the poor. It shouldn't be a hard case to make, but it is right now - in the halls of Congress, the Senate, maybe here in Healy Hall. But I put it to you: we must not let this economic recession become a moral recession. That would become a double cruelty."
