Three women and two children were killed and several others injured in a roadside bomb explosion in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan on Thursday.
The victims were the members of a family, who were returning in the morning after visiting their relative who performed the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, reports quoting the Deh Rawad district governor said.
The governor blamed the Taliban militants for blowing up the vehicle in which the victims were traveling.
The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) strongly condemned the roadside bombing. "Today's attack was a callous and shameful act against Afghan citizens," said Brig. Gen. Günter Katz, ISAF Spokesman. "Mere days after the recent holy day of Ashura and conclusion of the sacred period of Muharram, the insurgency has continued its murderous assault on Afghan civilians," he said in a press release.
Katz extended "condolences to the family and loved ones of those killed and injured today in Uruzgan," adding that "ISAF stands with all Afghans who seek a peaceful nation."
