TLC will air a pilot called "Best Funeral Ever" which goes behind-the-scenes of a unconventional funeral parlor by following the Golden Gate Funeral Home and its director John Beckwith, Jr. The Dallas-based funeral home works with the families to create a central theme for a memorial and features a wild party of some sort.
"The Golden Gate experience is our version of the traditional African-American home-going celebration," Beckwith said in a statement announcing the news. "We do not produce generic funerals; everybody's experience has to be different."
The hour-long special is set to air Wednesday, December 27 at 8 p.m. and if proves popular, TLC will launch a full series.
"Best Funeral Ever" hails from Park Slope Productions and executive producers Paul Reitano and Terrence Sacchi.
