Members of the Westboro Baptist Church have blamed Carrie Underwood for the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. In a statement via Twitter, the famously anti-gay organization linked Underwood's pro-gay marriage stance to the killings.
"She pimped f*g marriage," Margie Phelps, Westboro spokeswoman, tweeted at Underwood on December 14. "Blood of dead school kids on her hands!"
The church, which is known to promote their controversial stance against homosexuality at highly publicized events, planned to protests at the funerals of children killed during the shooting.
Many fans were quick to fire back at the hate group, however, with one fan named Mandy Roberts writing:
"How on earth could Carrie Underwood be responsible? She's an amazing singer, gorgeous and a very devout Christian. Those people are crazy!"
