FourSquare To Display Users' Full Name And Share More Data With Local Venues

FourSquare, location-based social networking website, which made its three-billionth check-in and added 15 million more users to its network in 2012, has announced a fresh set of changes.

The company says that users' full names will appear with each and every check-in and that they will publicly viewable. This will make things less confusing. Currently, it provides full names only when you search for your friends on Foursquare. However, on the friend's profile page, users can't see their last name. Users have complained that this is confusing.

The next change is that businesses will now have more access to data on their recent customers. Currently, a business can see the customers who have checked in the last three hours, apart from most recent and their most loyal visitors. However, this leaves them with nothing but a time log to look at. So with this change, FourSquare will be "showing them more of those recent check-ins, instead of just three hours worth". Here again, users can opt out of this feature if they want to.

The company has also provided a document, "Privacy 101", which serves as an easy-to-read guide that will help users understand privacy terms better. A rather smart move considering Instagram's recent disaster with a privacy terms update where users misunderstood the terms and threatened to leave the popular photo-sharing service.
