Afghan and coalition forces on Monday killed a Taliban leader who was attempting to acquire rockets for attacks targeting Afghan government officials in Helmand province.
Mohammad Sayed, and another insurgent were killed during a joint security operation in Washer district, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a press release on Tuesday. Sayed is suspected to have distributed weapons and ammunition to Taliban fighters.
Separately, another Taliban leader was killed in Khugyani district of Nangarhar province on Tuesday in a joint operation. Khanjar, also known as Izat and Abu Khaled, had allegedly directed attacks against Afghan government officials and joint forces in the district. During the operation, security forces also arrested a local Taliban leader who oversaw the transfer and delivery of weapons and ammunition to insurgent.
Also on Tuesday, an Afghan-led security force, supported by coalition troops, arrested two insurgents during a security operation in search of a Haqqani leader in Sabari district, Khost province. The Haqqani leader is responsible for directing and conducting attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the district.
