During an interview with Steve Harvey, Fantasia announced the title, The Side Effects of You, and release date, March 13, of her forthcoming fourth studio album.
She had a lot to say about the LP, noting that she worked with one producer, Harmony, on the whole thing:
"This time I just wanted to stick with one person so we could have an album that has one sound and everybody's on the same page."
She added that she headed up writing duties on the album, and steered it in the direction of "rock-soul":
"It's my baby 'cause I finally got to write. I just wanted so bad to do something like that and I thank the record company, RCA, for allowing me to finally be able to do that on this album."
