Earnings Watch For Jan 28 (BIIB, CAT, STX, VMW, YHOO)

Earth-moving equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. (CAT) is slated to report results for the fourth quarter before the markets open. Earnings of the company are expected to decline to $1.70 per share from year-ago quarter's $2.32 per share. The company is anticipated to generate revenues of $16.12 billion, down from $17.24 billion in the prior-year quarter. The stock closed Friday at $95.58. (52-wk H/L $116.95/$78.25)

Biogen Idec Inc. (BIIB) is due to report its results for the fourth quarter. The company is expected to report a profit of $1.46 per share, lower than $1.51 per share reported last year. Besides, quarterly revenues are anticipated to rise to $1.39 billion from the prior year's $1.33 billion. The stock closed Friday at $146.20. (52-wk H/L $157.18/$114.53)

Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) is scheduled to report results for the fourth quarter after the markets close. The Sunnyvale, California-based company is expected to post earnings of $0.28 per share on revenues of $1.21 billion. A year earlier, earnings and revenue were $0.24 per share and $1.17 billion, respectively. The shares closed Friday at $20.37. (52-wk H/L $20.52/$14.35)

Seagate Technology Public Ltd. Co. (STX), a manufacturer of hard disk drives, is expected to report results for the second quarter. The Dublin, Ireland-based company is expected to post earnings of $1.28 per share, down from $1.32 per share last year whereas revenues are anticipated to rise to $3.58 billion from the prior year's $3.20 billion. The shares closed Friday at $37.25. (52-wk H/L $37.94/$20.50)

Virtualization software maker VMware, Inc. (VMW) will report its fourth quarter results after the close of trading. The company is expected to post earnings of $0.78 per share, up from $0.62 per share reported a year earlier, on revenues of $1.28 billion. The shares closed Friday at $99.00. (52-wk H/L $118.79/$79.46)

Roper Industries Inc. (ROP), Wolverine World Wide Inc. (WWW), Crane Co. (CR), BMC Software Inc. (BMC), Illumina Inc. (ILMN),International Rectifier Corporation (IRF), J&J Snack Foods Corp. (JJSF), Rent-A-Center, Inc. (RCII), Sanmina Corporation (SANM) and Steel Dynamics Inc. (STLD) are also scheduled to report their results.
