A bomb explosion at a hotel in northern Afghanistan has killed at least four people and injured more than ten others, media reports citing local officials said Tuesday.

The incident reportedly occurred in the Khwaja Sabzposh district of Faryab province at about noon on Tuesday. Officials were quoted as saying that the bomb, which as planted inside the hotel, was detonated using a remote control device.

Although no group has claimed responsibility for Tuesday's hotel bombing, local officials blame Taliban fighters active in the area for the attack.

Following the incident, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan condemned the indiscriminate violence targeting civilians in the war-torn Asian nation.

"These murderous and senseless acts of terror against the Afghan people will not stand in the way of the progress they have worked so hard to achieve," ISAF spokesman Brig. Gen. Gunter Katz said in a statement.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to those who lost loved ones in today's ruthless attack. This is just another example of insurgents trying to undermine the bright future the Afghan people deserve," he added.

At present, there are about 105,000 foreign troops from more than 48 countries under the joint command of the NATO and the United States in Afghanistan to contain the Taliban. The United States remains the single biggest contributor to the ISAF, with 68,000 soldiers on the ground.

The U.S. and other allied nations involved in the Afghan mission are currently making serious efforts to get the Afghan security forces ready and capable of handling the country's security before the planned withdrawal of coalition troops by the end of 2014.

ISAF has already begun the process of entrusting security responsibilities of the country to Afghan forces. However, there are wide concerns about the ability of Afghan security forces to counter Taliban insurgency without the same level of foreign military assistance and presence.
