Finland December Tourist Overnight Stays Rise 3%

Tourist overnight stays in Finnish Accommodation establishments increased notably from last year in December, preliminary data released by Statistics Finland showed Friday.

The total number of nights spend by tourists increased 2.8 percent on an annual basis to 1.3 million in December. Stays by resident tourists moved up by 1.8 percent, while the number of nights spent by foreign visitors advanced by 4.5 percent.

Overnight stays by Russians and Britons, the largest groups of foreign tourists in December, increased 13.7 percent and 10.7 percent respectively from a year earlier.

In the whole of 2012, the number of tourists staying at Finnish accommodation facilities increased 1.6 percent to around 20 million from the corresponding period a year earlier. Stays by residents were unchanged from a year earlier, while those by foreigners increased by 5.4 percent, data showed.
