Lauren Alaina has been announced as the Special Olympics ambassador at the Special Olympics World Games in South Korea. Alaina, speaking with the Times Free Press, made the announcement official:
"I'm the Special Olympics ambassador (Special Olympics Project UNIFY Ambassador for North America.) It's going to be freezing cold, but think it will be a really fun time."
Alaina, in accepting the appointment, is tasked with raising the profile of athletes with intellectual disabilities, an opportunity for which she says she is particularly well-suited.
"I have been involved with the local chapter in my hometown since I was in sixth grade," she said. "There is nothing that makes me happier or inspires me more than spending time with the athletes."
