Adobe has finally launched its popular image editing software Photoshop for iPhones and Android phones. Photoshop Touch, which was first launched for tablets back in October last year, is now available for smartphones as well.

This move by the company is an indicator that it wants to move beyond the traditional PC and create a presence in markets like smartphones and tablets, which are growing at an explosive rate. Previously, Adobe only released Photoshop Express for iPhones and Android phones. Though these apps were useful, their features missed out on most offerings from the regular version of Photoshop.

What's amazing about the new application is that it is very similar to its tablet counterpart. Photoshop Touch for smartphones allows you to use up to sixteen layers on each project, meaning that you're getting much more than you'll ever need from an image-editing app on a smartphone. However, as the quality and size of the image increase, you'll only be able to use fewer and fewer layers on the project.

The phone version of the app will cost you $4.99, compared with $9.99 for the tablet version. However, not everyone should get excited, since the application works only on high-end phones, since it needs a lot of power to run. Owners using Android 4.0 and above, iPhone4S and above and iPodTouch 5th Generation, will be able to run the application smoothly.

The app is being offered in English, French, German, and Japanese at the moment.
